From its beginning back in 2007, CollegePrep has been an intentional, small-by-design practice focused on helping students build a best-fit college portfolio. We work closely with our students to help them discover who they’ve become academically, socially, and athletically in high school, and then we find colleges that match their personality, passions, and goals.
By keeping our practice small, we’re able to take a more personalized, student-centered approach. We help our students look into their interests and passions through multiple lenses, utilizing personality and career inventories early in the process to help them find what makes them tick.
We believe in teamwork, too. CollegePrep pairs with high school counselors, writing experts, test prep coaches, and college admissions teams, so our students not only find schools they love—but they also have the best possible applications.
About Sam
Before founding CollegePrep
Sam worked with the Claremont Colleges in Los Angeles and the California State University system to develop academic and career-related programs for their Student Affairs divisions. In 2007, Sam opened his L.A.-based “small-by-design” private practice in college consulting, working with parents and students locally and internationally to help them find their best-fit college matches. In 2009, Sam expanded his practice to Louisville, Kentucky, giving him up-close access to colleges and universities in the Midwest and Southern regions of the country to complement his strong relationships with colleges on the two coasts.
In addition to his work in Student Affairs and his private practice, Sam has consulted with various high schools and colleges around the country on retention and academic/career-related programs. He is a member of several national and regional college counseling associations, including NACAC, WACAC, SACAC, OACAC, and HECA. Sam holds a PsyD in clinical psychology from the University of Southern California and a post-graduate degree in college counseling from UCLA. Before his college consulting work, Sam spent several years as a Psychologist working in Chronic Pain Management.
When he’s not busy updating himself about the latest college admissions trends, Sam can be found exploring Architectural Digest and imagining his second career as the next Oscar Neimeyer, Philip Johnson, or Mies van der Rohe.
